SAFETY

Here is one of our recent safety topics:

From 2 March 2010's Meeting

Our national safety team would like us to make sure our fleet is well maintained. The area they covered pertains to our Vehicle fleet and avoiding the possibility of tread and tire separation. The materials in tires have been found to have a life of about 6 years regardless of use. Even tires stored unused may have become defective due to material degradation over time. Recently tire companies have placed the manufacture date on the outter-out wall of the tire for easy viewing (previously located in the outter-in wall requiring removing the wheel or climbing under your car to view. ABC website has more.
How to read the code to tell how old your tire really is.
An Animation of how the material degrades (No audio)
Retailers are aware of how to read the manufacture date, and that tires SHOULD be changed out every 6 years regardless of tread condition but will sell consumers tires well over the safety date at reduced prices or even full price.
Video catches retailers selling consumers tires as old as 12 years
